Ingredients

  • 2½ ozBourbon, a robust 100-proof works best
  • ½ ozSimple syrup, 1:1
  • 8Mint leaves, fresh, plus a bouquet to garnish
  • Crushed ice, packed

Method

  1. Slap the mint leaves between your palms once to release oils — do not muddle.

  2. Drop mint into a silver julep cup. Add simple syrup.

  3. Half-fill the cup with crushed ice. Add bourbon. Stir with a spoon until the cup frosts.

  4. Mound more crushed ice above the rim. Plant a generous mint bouquet on top. Serve with a short straw.
