Irish Coffee

Hot coffee, Irish whiskey, brown sugar, topped with a thick layer of cold lightly-whipped cream. Drunk through the cream, not under it.

Ingredients

  • 1½ ozIrish whiskey, Jameson, Tullamore Dew, or Powers
  • 4 ozStrong hot coffee, freshly brewed
  • 2 tspDemerara or brown sugar
  • Lightly whipped cream, to float, whip just to soft peaks

Method

  1. Pre-warm the mug with hot water for 30 seconds. Dump.

  2. Add sugar to the mug. Pour in the hot coffee and stir to dissolve.

  3. Add the Irish whiskey and stir once.

  4. Float the lightly-whipped cream over the back of a warm spoon — it should sit on top, not sink. Do not stir.
