Hot Toddy

Whiskey, honey, lemon, hot water. The oldest fix in the book — a glass of medicine that turned, sometime in the 18th century, into a pleasure.

Ingredients

  • 1½ ozBlended Scotch, or bourbon, rye, Irish — your call
  • 2 tspHoney, a robust honey, not clover
  • ½ ozLemon juice, fresh
  • 4 ozHot water, just off the boil
  • —Lemon wheel studded with 3 cloves

Method

  1. Pre-warm the mug with hot water for 30 seconds. Dump.

  2. Add honey to the mug. Pour in a splash of hot water and stir until dissolved.

  3. Add lemon juice and Scotch. Top with the remaining hot water.

  4. Float the clove-studded lemon wheel on top.
