A column of dark rum poured over a glass of cold ginger beer and ice. Two ingredients, one of them registered to the Bermuda government.

- 2 ozBlack rum, Gosling's Black Seal for the trademark spec
- 4 ozGinger beer, spicy and dry — Barritt's or Fever-Tree
- ½ ozLime juice, fresh, optional but most modern bars include it
- —Lime wedge, to garnish
Method
Fill a highball with cubed ice.
Pour ginger beer over the ice. Add the lime juice if using.
Float the dark rum slowly over the back of a bar spoon so it sits on top, dark over pale — this is the look the name describes.
Garnish with a lime wedge. Stir or layer to taste.
