A Negroni that traded gin for bourbon. Heavier, warmer, and slightly sweeter — the cousin who shows up in a tweed jacket.

Ingredients

  • 1¼ ozBourbon or rye whiskey, rye if you want it drier
  • 1 ozCampari
  • 1 ozSweet vermouth, Carpano Antica or Cocchi di Torino
  • Orange peel, expressed

Method

  1. Combine whiskey, Campari, and sweet vermouth in a mixing glass over a generous fill of clear ice.

  2. Stir for 30 to 40 seconds.

  3. Strain into a rocks glass over a single large cube. Some bartenders serve it up in a coupe — both are correct.

  4. Express an orange peel over the surface and drop it in.
