Bloody Mary

Ingredients

  • 2 ozVodka
  • 4 ozTomato juice, good-quality, well chilled
  • ½ ozLemon juice, fresh
  • 2 d.Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 d.Tabasco, or to taste
  • Pinch of celery salt, black pepper, and grated horseradish
  • Celery stalk, lemon wedge, and olive, to garnish

Method

  1. Combine vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire, Tabasco, and seasonings in a shaker over a few cubes of ice.

  2. Roll the drink — pour back and forth between two halves of the shaker — to integrate without aerating. Shaking turns tomato juice frothy and ruins the texture.

  3. Pour, ice and all, into a highball glass.

  4. Garnish with a celery stalk, a lemon wedge, and an olive on a pick. Cracked black pepper across the top.
